More and more Australians are travelling to overseas stem cell clinics for treatment, but at what cost to their back pocket – and their health?

Associate Professor Megan Munsie, of Stem Cells Australia, a collaboration between several of the nation’s leading universities and research institutes, conservatively estimates that hundreds of Australians are heading overseas each year for these types of treatments.

Munsie is alarmed by the rise of these clinics. “Clinics are popping up all over the world selling ‘stem cell therapies’ without evidence. Our concern is that people are being exploited,” she says.
