Certain types of exercises can help those with spinal cord injuries improve function and adapt to using a wheelchair, explains Erin Jones, a certified specialist in neurologic physical therapy and brain injury specialist.
Erin Jones works as the rehabilitation educator for Orlando Heath Rehabilitation Institute. She is also the program coordinator for the UCF-Orlando Health Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency Program. Her specialty includes rehabilitation of patients with traumatic and neurological injuries.
For many spinal cord injury patients, the exercises they select will depend upon what muscle groups they’re able to move, she explains.
