We are delighted to announce that on 2nd December 2015, Lloyd’s Australia along with major sponsors SLE Worldwide, XL Catlin and Brooklyn Underwriting, will host its inaugural Charity Golf Day in support of SpinalCure.
Since Lloyd’s first Australian venture insuring a merchant vessel in 1860, it has become a guiding force in the local insurance market. In 2014, Lloyd’s underwriters wrote over AUD $2bn of business in Australia, making Lloyd’s the fifth largest non-life insurer in the Australian market. SpinalCure, being a small organisation with a very big goal, is pleased to be partnering with such a large and prestigious firm in an event that aims to raise funds and awareness for our sole mission – to cure paralysis.
The event will be held at the Avondale Golf Club in the leafy suburb of Pymble on Sydney’s North Shore. Founded in 1926, Avondale is consistently voted as one of NSW’s top, private golf courses, and players will have a lush, 18 hole, Group 1 course to look forward to. The day will see many members of the Lloyd’s Australia insurance and underwriting community join together for a friendly Ambrose tournament, with over 30 teams of four expected to play. The day could be very lucky for one golfer, with Sportscover sponsoring a $20,000 hole-in-one prize.
The tournament will be followed by a lunch, raffle and auction, with all proceeds donated to SpinalCure to help us continue to fund vital medical research into finding a cure for paralysis. We are currently working to develop some of the most promising treatments and technologies out there, those with exciting, early results that could mean the world of difference to the 15,000 Australians living with a spinal cord injury. There are however very real challenges that exist in funding the research and translating it into a cure, and events like the Golf Day are invaluable in helping us to make this happen. We are deeply grateful to Lloyd’s for their support, and are looking forward to a fantastic day on the course!
