The first ever Lloyd’s Golf Day in support of spinal research was held December 2nd last year at Sydney’s Avondale Golf Course and was a smashing success! With 120 participants playing in the Ambrose style tournament, lots of fun was enjoyed by all with a putting competition to kick the day off, and a narrow miss on the $20,000 hole-in-one prize generously contributed by event sponsor SportsCover.
The event, coordinated by Gary ‘Smoky’ Dawson of Bullant Sports, was a top corporate golf day, combing the best of the sport with raising much-needed funds for spinal research. Thirty teams of four players each took part in the Ambrose style tournament, with the winning team hailing from major event sponsor XL Catlin.
A morning on the green was wrapped up with a delightful lunch in the club house, followed by presentation to the winners, speeches from Lloyd’s Country Manager Chris Mackinnon and SpinalCure CEO Duncan Wallace and finally the auction and raffle prizes. All proceeds from the event have been donated to SpinalCure to fund vital medial research into finding a cure for paralysis.
We are currently working to develop some of the most promising treatments and technologies out there for spinal cord injury, and the support of our corporate partners, sponsors and donors means that we are able to address the significant challenges that exist in funding this crucial work.
SpinalCure is honoured to have benefitted from this fantastic event and would like to thank Lloyd’s, along with major sponsors SLE Worldwide, XL Catlin and Brooklyn Underwriting and all of the attendees for a very successful and enjoyable day. Together, a whopping total of $31,581 was raised in support of spinal cord injury research!Inaugural Lloyd’s Australia Golf Day in support of SpinalCure a major fundraising success
