Stimulating research for Australia

As a first set to introducing the exciting field of electrical stimulation therapy to Australia SpinalCure is proud to announce the David Prast Research Establishment Fellowship.

Valued at up to $450,000 over three years, the Fellowship is a joint partnership between SpinalCure, Spinal Cord Injuries Australia (SCIA) and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP). It is offered under the umbrella of the David Prast Leadership Fund which commemorates the work of the late spinal injuries advocate David Prast, who despite a spinal cord injury, used his drive and determination to focus on better outcomes for Australians living with spinal cord injuries. David was a Director of both SpinalCure and SCIA and was instrumental in introducing the Walk On program to Australia.

Stimulating the spinal cord below the level of injury has shown remarkable success in rats and now thrilling results in four young men as reported recently in the medical journal Brain. It is hoped that the recipient of this Fellowship will work with international leaders in the field with a view to bringing this technology back to Australia.
