Our WA Volunteer, Fiona Allen

One valuable member of our WA volunteer corps is Fiona Allen. Fiona, herself a paraplegic, has worked long and hard raising funds for spinal research. At her own expense she has been actively involved in lobbying government, addressing Rotary Clubs and inspiring businesses and individual people to support our cause.

Fiona’s work has been recognised by the WA Government when she was presented with the 2004 WA Youth Inspiration Award by Western Australia’s Premier, Dr Geoff Gallop, at the WA Youth Awards Showcase at the Burswood Ballroom.

Fiona works tirelessly to improve the lives of people suffering from neurotrauma-related conditions, such as spinal and brain injury. She lobbied to ensure the continuation of funding for WA's world-class neurotrauma research.

Fiona was paralysed in an accident in 2002 and has bravely told her story to scientists, corporate sponsors, road safety authorities, politicians and the media, to educate the community about the reality of spinal cord injury and the importance of research to repair and reverse these injuries.
