Lunch @ VAT2 Bunbury WA with Eileen Bond

Eileen Bond (Red) has for the past six years personally supported the work of Dr Giles Plant’s laboratory, known as Red’s Spinal Cord Research Laboratory, at the University of Western Australia.

On the 2/12/05 Eileen held a luncheon/auction fundraiser at VAT2, Bunbury and with considerable community support and her personal donation $20,360 was raised.

Dr Giles Plant, one of Australia’s finest scientists, travelled to the US in 1996 to join the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, where he was among the first of two groups to transplant adult olfactory ensheathing glia into the injured spinal cord.
He returned to Perth in 1999 to research the transplantation of olfactory cells (those providing a sense of smell) to the injured cord, enabling damaged fibres to re-grow in the treatment of sci.
