ADAM FREIER - Wallaby
Adam Freier is a rugby union footballer. He currently plays for the NSW Waratahs in the international Super 14 competition. His usual position is at hooker. He is currently acting Captain of the Waratahs due to a long injury to Phil Waugh.
He made the Australian Schoolboys in 1998 as well as the under-19s, which he captained the following year. In 2000 he signed with the ACT Brumbies and made his state debut against Queensland. He went onto play for the Australian under-21s, including captaining them at the 2001 under-21 Rugby Championships, in which they finished runner-up to New Zealand. He made his debut for the Wallabies in 2002, in a match against Argentina.
Frier left the Brumbies and signed with the Waratahs for the 2003 season, and was selected to captain the Waratah's tour of Argentina in post-season 2004, and was voted player of the tour. In 2005 he was selected for the final match of the 2005 Tri Nations Series. After he was selected as the run-on hooker in the second Cook Cup match in 2006.
Freier has signed on with the Melbourne Rebels for the 2011 season. Freier told the Sydney Morning Herald's Josh Rakic, his reasons for approaching the Rebels include: "Mutual respect, a coach he admires, the challenge of new team."
- Born in Goondiwindi on 20 March 1980, Freier is the son of former Eastern Suburbs Rugby League player and coach Laurie Freier and is a graduate of Waverley College, from where he won Australian Schoolboy selection in 1997. His underage career was nothing short of outstanding, captaining his country at both U19 and U21 level. He went on to lead Australia A in 2005.
